Should You Save or Kill Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3
The Baldur's Gate 3 Nightsong can be found in the Gauntlet of Shar. You need to obtain four Umbral Gems from various puzzles and trials, which will allow you to interact with a device that opens the deepest recesses. You can learn more in our Gauntlet of Shar guide.
It also bears mentioning that you want to acquire the Spear of Night from the Silent Library. This weapon plays a pivotal role in the upcoming encounter. Moreover, it's a given that you should have Shadowheart in your party.
Point of No Return
Note that this section is a point of no return for Act 2. Once you interact with the pool of water in the depths, you'll be transported to another realm. All Act 1 fast travel points and locations (i.e. Druid Grove, Underdark, Grymforge, Githyanki Creche, and others) will no longer be accessible. In fact, if you attempt to return to the Underdark or Mountain Pass via the overworld area, your character will simply say that you can't waste time anymore.
Similarly, some interactions and objectives might not be possible anymore. Examples include giving Infernal Iron to Dammon in Last Light Inn, or rescuing the Tieflings in Moonrise Towers.
Kill the Nightsong: Decision and Consequences
Shadowheart will use the Spear of Night to stab the Nightsong, killing her instantly. She'll be filled with Shar's blessing, as she's proven her worth to her deity. These are the consequences of this decision:
- Reward: Shar's Spear of Evening (legendary)
- Deals 6-16 damage.
- Shar's Blessing - Advantage on saving throws while obscured; deals additional 1d6 damage to creatures that are obscured.
- Blind Immunity - The wielder cannot be blinded.
- Shar's Darkness - Level 2 Evocation spell.
Save the Nightsong: Decision and Consequences
For this Baldur's Gate 3 Nightsong story branch, you need to pass a DC 21 Charisma check, which is quite tough if you didn't put points into Charisma. You can rely on Shadowheart's Guidance cantrip to help boost it, or just keep reloading your save until you succeed.
If you're successful, Shadowheart will throw away the Spear of Night. The Nightsong will reveal herself as an Aasimar and one of Selune's daughters.
- Reward #1: Moonlight Glaive (rare)
- Deals 4-16 damage.
- Moonlight Glaive: Glowing - Shines with a glowing light with a 6-meter radius.
- +2 weapon enchantment.
- Reward #2: Selune's Spear of Night (legendary)
- Deals 6-11 damage.
- Selune's Blessing - Advantage on Wisdom saving throws and Perception checks.
- Darkvision - Can see in the dark up to 12 meters.
- +3 weapon enchantment.
- Moonbeam - Level 3 Evocation spell.
- Moonmote - Class action.
- Note: We convinced Shadowheart to turn away from Shar. The Spear of Night turned into this legendary weapon after a key scene in Act 3.
- Deaths
- Ketheric Thorm (technically) - The encounters against Ketheric Thorm were a lot easier since we had an angel pummeling his face. You can learn more in our Ketheric Thorm boss guide.
- Shadowheart Romance - We remained supportive of her, which also led to advancing the Shadowheart romance during Act 3. In any case, the same might be possible for the outcome where you kill the Nightsong, but we've yet to progress further with that arc.
We've also included a couple of details that happen near the end of Act 2 and the beginning of Act 3. These concern Shadowheart's story and the Selune's Spear of Night legendary, as well as Nightsong's identity. Click on the spoilers at your own risk:
Should You Surrender Nightsong to Balthazar?
Your squad will get transported to a realm that's equally dazzling and terrifying. Boosted jump and slow fall are also active, so you should be able to reach the floating ledges without any problems. At the bottom of this area, you'll find Balthazar, the necromancer from the Gauntlet of Shar.
Balthazar wants to claim the Nightsong, a woman who has been imprisoned in this realm for over a century. Normally, you'd choose the dialogue options that lead to a battle so you can protect Nightsong. However, if you let Balthazar kidnap her, Shadowheart will extremely disapprove of your decision. The moment you exit this area via portal, she'll leave your party for good.
How to Beat Balthazar
Our suggestion for the Baldur's Gate 3 Balthazar boss fight is to ungroup your team and reposition them individually. The detection range is fairly low, so you should be able to jump and move around without triggering the cutscene that starts the fight. Ideally, you'll want to do the following:
- Gale (or someone with Thunderwave) should be on the rock formation to the right.
- A melee character (i.e. we had a Monk main character) should be slightly close to him.
- Your strongest melee warrior, such as Karlach or Lae'zel, ought to be near the left-hand side, ready to strike Balthazar to begin the battle.
- Whatever happens, make sure you don't hit Nightsong accidentally with AoE abilities and spells.
Fortnite's latest summer season is going out with a bang thanks to the new Jujutsu Kaisen event and mini-pass, and Chapter 4 Season 4 is right around the corner to bring us a new battle pass, new storylines, possibly the end of Chapter 4, and what's shaping up to be Fortnite's biggest collaboration ever. Let's take a look at what we know so far about Fortnite Chatper 4 Season 4.
When does Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 begin?
The in-game messaging says that Season 3 will wrap up on August 24 at 11 PM PT / August 25 at 2 AM ET, and if Epic follows the same pattern as other season launches this year, downtime should only be a few hours. Season 4 should begin sometime during the morning of August 25.
Will there be a live event at the end of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3?
If the season is really going to end in the middle of the night US time, there probably won't be a live event. However, this time could be moved as we get closer to launch.
What's in the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 battle pass?
There haven't been any Season 4 battle pass leaks thus far, but we'll be updating this space as they (inevitably) appear online. We do have one potential clue, however.
Are there any official Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 teasers yet?
Brazilian influencer Sharshock tweeted on Friday evening that he had received a package from Epic that seems to be some kind of tease for Season 4.
Now, those of you who played Fortnite back in Chapter 3 Season 1 will remember that one of the legendary skins from that season's battle pass was a guy named Ronin. His set of cosmetics was called The Order of the Waning Moon, and his back bling was literally a glowing red crescent moon symbol. So it seems quite possible that we could get a Ronin reskin or, more likely, a new Order of the Waning Moon character in the Season 4 battle pass.
What do we know for sure about Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 so far?
Aside from the start date, nothing official has been revealed at all. No teasers or anything from Epic aside from that moon thing, no cryptic tweets from Donald Mustard, and nothing in the game looking ahead as far as anybody can tell--but there was a hidden cursed Jujutsu Kaisen llama in this season's key art from months ago, so even if there a secret tease we might not actually understand what it is yet.
Also, a few major Fortnite dataminers, including Gmatrix and YLSDev, were recently banned by Epic permanently--meaning there are two fewer key leak sources at the moment than we usually have.
All that said, there have been two massive rumors about upcoming additions to Fortnite that could happen during Season 4.
Is Fortnite x Lego happening in Chapter 4 Season 4?
Fortnite's collaboration with Lego is officially confirmed, but the details--and specifically the timing--remain murky. But according to dataminers like Wenso, the Lego collab will arrive at the end of Season 4 like the Most Wanted, Star Wars and Jujutsu Kaisen events brought each of their respective seasons to a close.
But apparently this one is gonna be much bigger than any of these mini-passes we've gotten in Chapter 4 so far. When Season 4 launches on August 25, it'll be Fortnite's version 26.00. While whole numbers are usually reserved for new seasons, Wenso says the Lego update will arrive in November, and it will be version 27.00 despite not actually being a new full season.
We don't know much about what will actually go into this collaboration, but one of the central concepts will be a "digital twin" mechanic that will allow you to bring Lego creations from real life into Fortnite somehow--that's that metaverse we've been waiting on, baby!
Beyond that, there's been discussion of a supposed Lego battle royale island, but there's nothing concrete here yet, and if the Lego event doesn't start until November then we aren't likely to learn much else about it before Season 4 begins.
Is Fortnite getting a racing mode in Chapter 4 Season 4?
There's been a lot of chatter this year about a new mode codnamed DelMar, which will allegedly be an arcade-style kart-racing mode with full vehicle customization and a separate battle pass. That sounds pretty involved and not at all surprising since Epic owns Rocket League developer Psyonix.
For the third season in a row, Fortnite is introducing a sort of miniature battle pass to bring the season to a close. This time the pass includes a collaboration with the popular manga/anime franchise Jujutsu Kaisen for an event called Break the Curse. It's got a miniature battle pass with free and paid rewards, new skins and accessories in the Item Shop, all new gameplay items, and of course a Jujutsu Kaisen Cup tournament.
The Break the Curse event is live now and follows the same general structure as the Star Wars-branded Find the Force event back in May. The Jujutsu Kaisen mini battle pass has a track of free rewards that you can unlock by playing Battle Royale and completing event quests, and there's also a premium track you can purchase for 1,000 V-Bucks. Unlike the previous two mini passes, there are no free skins to earn this time.
However, buying the premium track will immediately net you the Streetwear Yuji Itadori outfit, and if you complete the pass you'll also get the Yuji Itadori outfit--that's his school uniform. The free rewards include a wrap, a loading screen, and a back bling, and the final item is the Shadow Play: Toad emote. There's also a free Nue glider outside the reward tracks that you can earn by completing quests, just like with Darth Maul's Sith Interceptor last season.
The Item Shop is also getting its own bit of Jujutsu Kaisen flavor with three outfits and their accompanying cosmetics: Itadori's classmates Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, and their teacher Satoru Gojo.
On top of all that, Jujutsu Kaisen is shaking up the Battle Royale meta with a pair of new tools that you can find from Cursed Llamas around the island. We've got the Straw Doll Technique, which you can use to hurl cursed nails at your foes, and there's also the Hollow Technique: Purple, which damages players over time and is great for taking down buildings and objects.
You make progress through the Jujutsu Kaisen pass by earning Curse Energy from Break the Curse! quests. There will be five categories of quests dropped in four waves, starting with Grade 4 quests right now, and continuing with Grade 3 on August 10, Grade 2 on August 15, and Grade 1 and Special Grade on August 17. If you complete a certain amount of each category of quests, you can unlock the Nue Glider for free.
The Break the Curse event will end on August 25 at 2am, which is also when Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 will conclude.
Epic is also holding a Jujutsu Kaisen Cup on August 11--it's the only competitive tournament during the event that will include the Straw Doll and Purple techniques, so it should be quite a show. The reward for being among the top performers in your region, however, is just an emoticon.
